This standard is formulated to standardize the design of roller compacted concrete （RCC） dams and ensure the design quality， with the view of making use of the advanced technology， meeting the requirements for safety， reliability， cost-effectiveness， and rationality.
According to the plan to formulate and amend the technical standards issued by Ministry of Water Resources and the stipulations of SL 1-2014 Speczfication for the Drafting of Technical Standards of Water Resources， we have amended the SL 314-2004 De.sign Specification for Rolter Compacted Concrete Dams.
The standard includes eight （8） chapters and the major technical contents include：
——Layout of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC） dam structures;
——Dam body design， stability and stress analysis， and anti-seepage design for RCC dam;
Structural design， such as joints， galleries， water stops，drains， etc;
——Requirements of material， zoning and durability of dam;
——Design and measures of temperature control of dam;
——Safety monitoring items and arrangement of monitoring facili-ties.
The following contents have been amended：
——Adding the rational service life of RCC dams and durability re-quirements of dam materials;
——Adding the arrangement of outlets and requirements of structural type;
——Revising the effective thickness of RCC impervious zone;
——Adding the requirements of overhang and crest width in design of RCC arch dam body;
——Revising the requirement of maximum water-binder ratio of RCC;
——Adding the requirement of concrete surface thermal insulation during winter in severe cold or cold regions;
——Revising the requirement of safety monitoring layout for RCC dams.
The compulsory provision， Article 4.0.3， is printed in bold type and must be enforced strictly.
This standard supersedes the following previous editions：
——SL 314-2004.
This standard is approved by Ministry of Water Resources of the People's Republic of China.
This standard is interpreted by General Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design， Ministry of Water Resources.
