《超越的可能:作为知识分子的乔叟》从“知识分子”的视角,以知识分子的社会功能和智慧品质为线索,将“英国诗歌之父”乔叟置于古今中外各种参照系里,结合文学文本分析和对中世纪英国社会、政治、性别和文化状况的追溯,探讨乔叟文学创作与历史语境的互动关系,解读诗人文本策略的社会意义,揭示乔叟不仅具备广义知识分子的博学和智慧,更在某种程度上,扮演了现代知识分子的社会批评者和大众启蒙者的角色,藉此论证乔叟具有超越其时代的现代性,反观当代知识分子研究的局限性。
