唐﹒德里罗是美国著名作家,至今已出版了16部长篇小说,获奖无数,其中包括:1985年《白噪音》获得美国国家图书奖,1992年《毛二》获得笔会/福克纳奖,1999年获得耶路撒冷奖,2010年获得笔会/索尔?贝娄美国小说成就奖,2013年获得首届国会图书馆美国小说奖。本书从新历史主义的视角探讨了德里罗文本的历史性、文本性及其多视角、叙事的非连续性、黑色幽默和互文性的叙事策略,指出德里罗是个具有社会责任感、有道德和强烈历史意识的作家。可以认为,他是个美国后现代编年史家。他的小说尖锐地批评了美国后现代文化。
